I have played the piano ever since I was 11 years old. I specialized in popular music – jazz, funk, soul and R&B. Throughout the years, I have gotten inspired by composers such as Bach, Händel, Leonard Bernstein, Quincy Jones, Don Grolnick, Vince Mendoza, George Duke, Maurice White (Earth, Wind & Fire), Russell Ferrante (Yellow Jackets), Dave Grusin, and many, many, many more.
When I reached the age of 15, I played in my first band. A jazz trio. And many more bands, from combo's to big bands, were to follow. At 17, I wrote my first composition to be aired on national TV. Some of the recent projects, I was involved with were: Funkalicious Collective (a Prince tribute band), Jazz.nl (a jazz/fusion/R&B band) and FQP (a funk, soul & R&B band).
When I moved to Paris, back in 1992, I started experimenting with Cubase to write and record my own compositions. I can tell you that it’s an addictive hobby. Back in Holland, and while building up my studio, I got my certificate Electronic Music Production from the SAE (School of Audio Engineering) in 2009. Useful skills that I apply to write and arrange music. This is what I love to do: creating & performing music. I'm always looking forward to encountering many stimulating musicians and projects along the way!
My next project is this one: Back On the BloQ. In 2011, I founded this 13-man formation to pay tribute to Quincy Jones. A legendary artist that had a profound impact on the way that I perceive and enjoy music. Hope you'll meet our band soon!
